Our AMAZING clients @journeyfromthemiddle designed their whole layout themselves and we brought it to life for them! They live in Brisbane Australia, and put trust in us from the other side of the world to complete their van build for the ultimate van life venture! Since then they have travelled extensively in their Camper for over a year, all over the UK & Europe and even as far as Turkey! The lay out is highly functional and practical, storage was a high priority for them since they would be living in the van full time, as was a wet room, which you can’t actually see on this reel 🤦🏼‍♂️ doh! Take a look around the wet room in this camper van…we hope it gives you inspo for your own van build or van life venture? Detailed info below👇🏼 This is the biggest wet room we have designed in one of our camper vans to date, as we did not include a fixed bed and opted for a pull out bed, we had more space to play with and could get extra creative. There are two sides, the toilet / sink / vanity side and then the shower side. The wall is curved to give an aesthetic point of difference, but also to give more space in the living area. We designed the toilet to be space saving, simply pull it out to use and push it back in after to create more floor space in vanity / sink area, it is also accessible from the garage so no dragging it through the main living space when it requires emptying. We’ve installed a heat vent so the wet room has a double use and can become a drying room for clothes, wetsuits, towels, shoes etc. We know from experience of living in vans how important a dedicated place to dry things is, and it’s nice to have it neatly out of your main living space. The heat vent is also handy to dry the room after a shower, within 15 mins it’s all back to normal. Ventilation is important in these small spaces, we’ve added a max air vent fan that would be sufficient alone, but also have 2 opening porthole windows each side for a quirky addition to the design. We love these a lot, they are a cost effective solution for air flow and light in a van, but as they are small you don’t loose a lot of heat like with larger windows. We’ve used our first rain head shower purely because we had space and it didn’t look out of place, not sure we would use them again in a camper van in all honesty, they hold a bit of water in them and leak when driving so not overly practical. Luckily there is the option to use the hand held shower instead! Summer is a wee medium wheel base and for this reason has been designed for weekends or holidays (as apposed to full time living) although she does have the power to go off grid with special thanks to @renogyofficial She came to us with panoramic windows pre installed so our challenge was to not block over the windows by building on the walls. Instead we made the windows a feature and added homey style slatted blinds. 🚐Airy floor space to the front half of the van with swivel seats to make use of all important side door views 🌅 🚐 Steps create a point of difference and charming flow around the van while maximising storage for clothes, shoes and extra kitchen storage etc. (step storage replaces need for upper cabinets) 🚐Tiny compact and space saving kitchen design. With unique upper island for dishing up plates 🥘 and multi use swivel out counter top table. 🚐Central wetroom, where all four outer walls have a purpose, and the panoramic windows throughout are all visible, bringing the outdoors in and a feeling of more light and space. In the interests of keeping things real around here, it’s been a tough year as a small business! Building vans is not the easiest of jobs at the best of times, I’m sure all you self builders can relate 🤷🏼‍♀️?!! But when you are poorly, or someone close to you is, it can get really challenging! What keeps us going during our tough times is keeping in mind our clients reactions when their van build is complete 🤍 it is incredibly special to be a part of, and THE best thing about building vans! A huge shout out to the bones of our business Wayne, who is the most selfless human I know. Despite being extremely busy with work, he has been there to catch me every time I fall (quite literally, because I’m having to contend with a new medical condition where I frequently faint) He has made adaptations to our workplace, supported me through so many medical appointments this year, sat with me countless times while I’ve broken down, pushed me around in a wheelchair, and what’s more made it fun in the process (we are definitely in need of some L plates though) He has drove me around endlessly, as I’m currently not allowed to drive (💔 for a vanlifer) He’s phoned for the ambulance multiple times ensuring I get the help I needed in an emergency, and if you fancy a laugh,the first time he had to call for help he rang 911 instead of 999 🤦🏼‍♀️(too many American TV shows I think 🤔) I decided to share this to demonstrate that life or ‘success’ is not always as it appears in the glossy Instagram photos, it gets very messy, and there are real people with struggles behind our brand! I know we are a ‘business account’ and some have and will question our professionalism, but we think it’s so important to share a dose of realism, and I actually think that only sharing positives can be quite damaging. I am a firm believer that the truest success in life is having kindness in your heart and time to give others, especially those in need. Career, materialistic items, ego, money, status, amount of followers etc - absolutely none of it is of more value than the simple act of being there for others. That’s what a REAL community is. HOORAY 🎉our latest van build is complete - swipe to take a look around 👉🏼 This design was created for our fab clients @janievanhool her husband Russell, and their much loved family dog, Hector 🐕 have you spotted his doggie drawer yet!?? 😍 Comfort was a top priority for this couple so a fixed bed was a must, we also designed a large curved sofa to the front (with heaps of storage underneath) this is situated opposite the sliding door to fully maximise those views from the van 🌅 As the views fade and the night draws in, the focus becomes the wood burner from small local business @daveankateteglastonburyburners this gives the space such a cosy feel 🔥 This sprinter home has a contemporary and practical design, with light wood and white features to give a sense of space, paired with deep colours for a warm inviting contrast! We created a feature splash back to the kitchen, with an option to hang kitchen utensils giving it a sense of purpose. It’s all ready for our clients to get cooking with their fabulous @omniasweden oven (PR Gift) There is a spacious area to the bathroom with instant hot shower, a composting toilet, and feature copper sink and mirror. (swipe for video) 🍷 the seat has many functions, including an integrated wine cabinet, capturing our clients love of fine wine, surrounded with warm feature lighting for enhancing that hygge feeling on an evening! 🌅 a pull out chaise longue was also incorporated in the seat for soaking up those special views from the side door, this can also double up as a child’s bed when required. There is hidden storage inside, and a pin board to the front for collecting treasured travel momentous! 🌊 to the garage there is a long length waterproof space for the storage of all important outdoor gear, and a heated drying rail for coats, towels, wetsuits, or extra clothes storage. ☀️ outside there is a roof terrace area with funky bespoke seats, this can be accessed via the large sky light above the bed, or via the telescopic @thule ladder. So many people suffer with mental illness, it’s always been a part of my life both in my own personal battle and on a professional level! Although I have deep understanding of mental illness (because of my profession as a therapist) I still only just about managed to make it through my darkest thoughts in the depths of my struggles (although they do still like to pop up to say hey every now and then 😅) There are unfortunately many many others that very sadly can not find a way out, and more awareness is needed to help prevent issues or thoughts exacerbating beyond control. In a era full of influencers I feel it is also key to stand with the people that are unheard, in silence, or out of any spot light, and to share our problems however big or small so that people do not feel alone in their personal struggles! We should speak up for EVERYONE, we ALL matter, regardless of number of followers, or how popular one is, hopefully we all got this point across in the film. Sharing positivity and constructive coping mechanisms is a start and I thank anyone that does this, but I think in order to really connect with people we must open up and share our own vulnerabilities. Great things happen when we speak up or show our own truths. I am so proud of each and every one of you in this film and thank you for joining me in raising awareness. I tried to make the video last year and failed, if I’m honest it shook my faith in this online community, but here is proof that you should always persevere, because you can turn things around with the right support and hard work! Tiny kitchens are kind of our thing 😍 by keeping the worktops narrow, and using slimline fridges, it can really make all the difference to the overall open feel in a small space! This commission was a little different to any we had completed before because @journeyfromthemiddle had such a clear vision of exactly what they wanted! Stepping aside from the van build posts for a moment to discuss a very important subject. I contacted a diverse mix of van lifers to ask them to be involved in a community mental health awareness video. 🙂 70% got back to me with an initial yes 🙅🏼‍♀️ 30% totally ignored me (mainly youtubers with a large follow base 🙈) 👎🏼 10% actually followed through by date given I can not help noticing that the above figures almost speak for themselves about where on a agenda mental health sits. While I know people are busy, it feels so important that we make room for mental health, and that it should be a priority both in advocacy and in suffering. Even though my video project on this occasion has kind of flopped, mental health still needs to be openly conversed, now more than ever, and I have always believed and known through my own life experiences, that failure is not the opposite to success, but it is very much a part of it! I’m just a tiny drop in the ocean compared to worldly problems right now, but I always stand up for what I believe in, and if I helped just 1 person by doing so that would be enough to know it was worth it. I do write this having faced my own mental health challenges as a child. Because of this I became so passionate in my adulthood about mental health and hidden illness, and used it to help others both in my personal and professional life going forwards. One day everything changed for me because I suffered with a life limiting, debilitating condition, and I spent 3 years of my twenties classed as disabled. This consequently triggered clinical depression, anxiety, agoraphobia and eating disorder 😅I could no longer help others and I couldn’t even walk some days. BUT I am proof that things can get better, and my life now is so different to what it was 3 years ago when I would rarely leave my own bedroom. There is a part of Instagram and van life that often gets a rep for being fake or self serving. I didn’t really see it so much myself until much more recently where I was faced to look at this uncomfortable truth. Continued in comments >

The mountains are calling ⛰🧡we are getting loads of questions on the pull out bench, so here are some more pics to help visualise how it works! . This is a versatile and social design because 4 people can sit on this bench when pulled out fully, which maximises use of the sliding door for taking in all of those epic views 🌅 . There is a swivel table that you can pull in front of you when on the bench for your drinks and nibbles 🍸 🥜 . The bench seat can also be pulled up close to the front double cab seats so that it creates a dining area or somewhere to play games 🍽 . You can use it as a chaise lounge for ultimate chill time, and it also makes a single bed meaning this van can sleep 3 people. (4 if someone is sleeping across the cab seats) 💤 . There is also an insane amount of storage under the bench, which is both accessible from the living area and the garage. . It can be pulled out to any size meaning you can use it as a single chair, or simply tucked away under the bed and locked in place to make best use of the floor space and create an open flow when not in use. Who has any good tips to share on sustainable products / adjustments in our homes? The swivel bases for the cab seats really do maximise every inch of space available, which was one of the main reasons we were able to fit so much in to this design! 🚐 Did you remove the barrier in your van to create a more open space or did you choose to shut the cab off and have the individual spaces? We have found there is definitely no right or wrong in van building, it’s what feels and works best for you and like everything there are pros and cons of both.
